Musharraf, who seized power with a bloodless coup in 1999, has seen his influence and power has significantly weakened since his dismissal of the country's chief justice in March 2007. Musharraf faces unprecedented internal crisis with a crushing defeat during elections, Islamist group's unending attack on the military, opposition parties lining up against him, the presence of the Taliban inside Pakistan's borders and international pressure to rid the country of it's radical Islamic groups. Since 9/11, Musharraf has vowed to support the USA and it's allies in the war on terror, when Pakistan came under intense scrutiny due to their ties with Islamic fundamentalists.
